Simplify and Speed up the process of compliance with the new Fire Safety Order
The Fire Safety Agency has developed a questionnaire that is compliant with the RRO legislation.
- Have you got time to do a fire safety assessment?
- Do you know how to do such an assessment?
- Do you know the penalties for not doing a fire risk assessment?
The potential impact on your business could mean days of additional non-profit making work, interpreting one of 11 guides and producing a Fire Safety Assessment Record that meet these new regulations and satisfies your local Fire Service's requirement!!!
The Fire Safety Agency speeds up and simplifies the process of being compliant with the new legislation.
By completeing this simple online questionnaire you will be able to produce a Fire Risk Assessment unique to your business's need and be compliant to the RRO.
How does the latest legislation affect you and your business?
The new Fire Safety Assessment regulation is due to come into force on 1st October 2006. You will be required under law, to carry out an assessment against documented guidance (and your interpretation of that guidance) from one of 11 guides issued by the DCLG and to:
- Ensure that you have recorded your findings.
- That you can reproduce this document in the event of need.
- You have regularly reviewed this assessment in light of changing business criteria (e.g. additional employees, change of use, or additional premises, storage of combustible/flammable materials etc.)
How can the FSA help you comply with the 2006 Fire Safety Order?
We make it easier!!
By answering a series of simple questions regarding your business and premises, the Fire Safety Agency will produce a Fire Safety Assessment Record meeting the requirements of the Fire and Rescue Services.
Here's how:
- We have created a series of on-line questions to enable you to produce the legally required Fire Safety Assessment Record.
- Our service has been designed to securely store this information electronically off-site on an annually renewable basis - for later retrieval in case of a catastrophic event at your premises.
- Documented proof of compliance to the Fire Safety Order.
- The ability to update your Fire Safety Assessment record on-line at any time via annual subscription.
- Receive an electronic Confirmation Record and a copy of your answers to the Fire Safety Assessment for display.
As an employer or business owner you will be held accountable for non compliance to the new Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order (RRO) with particular reference to the Fire Risk Assessment described within the act. You will need to appoint (it maybe yourself as the owner of the business) a Responsible Person to conduct the Fire Risk Assessment. See Enforcement
DIY Approach
If you have the time, expertise and resource to do this yourself, please download the guide from the Government website and conduct your own survey. A conservative estimate to understand, interpret, conduct and record a fire risk assessment is 4-7 days. Don't forget to store the document offsite and review regularly!
In order to comply with the new regulation you will need to determine which category your business falls into, then using the guide relevant to your business, produce the Fire Risk Assessment. This will comprise the following tasks:
- Read and understand the relevant guide
- Produce detailed lists of the risks to you, your staff and other people that may visit your business from time to time.
- Produce plans that mitigate the significant risks and record those risks that cannot be avoided and measures taken to minimise the unavoidable risks.
- Draw up the Fire Risk Assessment plan
- Ensure that all your employees are aware of the assessment and that training in respect of Fire prevention and actions to be taken in the event of fire are properly disseminated.
